Cellulite, tips to prevent it and natural remedies
Phases:
- The first stage is that of compact cellulite, which represents an initial alteration of the microhemolymphatic circulation of the vessels with normal permeability of the vessel wall, with consequent exudation of plasma and stagnation and accumulation of liquid in the interstitial space. This stage is characterized by edema and can be characterized as a reversible condition;
- Stage 2, however, is defined as edematous cellulite, in which the phenomena that characterize stage 1 increase, the turnover is further reduced and there is also a stagnation of toxins: the skin becomes pale, the subcutaneous fat deposits are similar to glue ;
- The 3rd stage of cellulite is defined as “fibrotic”, in which micro-nodules are formed which further hinder metabolic exchanges and cause a slow and progressive destruction of the connective tissue of the dermis;
- Finally, stage 4 is that of sclerotic cellulite, in which the micro-nodules become large nodules and are easily recognizable by palpation. At this stage, fibrosis of the connective tissue occurs, i.e. fibrous tissue increases in response to inflammation of the surrounding tissue, the orange peel appearance of the skin becomes more pronounced, the skin becomes pale, the subcutaneous fat content decreases and it becomes painful. This stage is considered irreversible, but previous stages can still be removed.
Did you know that prevention can help you?
The diet appears to be of considerable importance, in fact, to combat cellulite we often act first by modifying our diet: increasing the consumption of fruit and vegetables since their high fiber intake promotes intestinal activity. Furthermore, it is important to drink a lot of water to eliminate toxic substances, but avoid water rich in sodium as this element is capable of retaining liquids inside the tissues, effectively preventing a correct exchange of liquid between the cell and the outside.
Below is a summary of the tips to prevent and fight cellulite at the table:
- Reduce salt by using it in moderation and limit the consumption of foods rich in sodium such as industrial foods and sausages;
- Limit the consumption of sugars and fats which can promote fat accumulation;
- Eat purifying foods that help eliminate excess fluids and counteract water retention: among the most useful are pineapple, asparagus, cucumbers, onions, lettuce;
- Drink at least one and a half liters of water a day to stay hydrated;
- Fill up on fibers that promote intestinal transit;
- Bring red fruits to the table such as raspberries, blueberries, currants and blackberries which improve microcirculation.
Pineapple is very useful against inflammation, because it is known for its specific properties against cellulite which derive from the bromelain content: this enzyme not only has a strong diuretic power which makes pineapple an excellent remedy against the first symptoms of cellulite, but it also boasts anti-inflammatory, anti-edematous and anticoagulant properties: this characteristic makes it useful for improving tissue oxygenation and circulation in the lower limbs, reducing swelling and inflammation which is the origin of cellulite.
Red fruits are also useful for improving circulation, since the basis of cellulite is the dysfunction of the microcirculation or small circulation, caused by an accumulation of fat which compresses the capillaries, triggering inflammation of the adipose tissue at the subcutaneous. This is why eating foods that improve circulation, such as red fruits (raspberries, blackberries, currants and blueberries) are particularly beneficial thanks to their anthocyanin content. These antioxidants from the flavonoid family help keep blood capillaries healthy, thus promoting venous circulation, in particular the microcirculation.In short, the inclusion of red fruits must not be missing from your anti-cellulite diet.
The fibres on the other hand promote a sense of satiety and therefore help you control yourself at the table.
The natural remedies against cellulite are:
- The phytotherapy with infusions and herbal teas based on pineapple, ribes nigrum and dandelion;
- A diet rich in vitamins and water low in salt and fat;
- Homeopathy with thuya, pulsatilla and badiaga granules;
- Acupuncture with at least 10 sessions lasting 30 minutes, which however can only be carried out by doctors or physiotherapists with the presence of a doctor in the office;
- Aromatherapy is also very effective with essential oils of lemon, celery and rosemary which can also be mixed with the oil used for the anti-cellulite massage to give a more draining and therefore more effective effect.
How does anti-cellulite treatment work?
Cellulite is caused by the enlargement of fat cells which reduces the caliber of the capillaries, worsens circulation and allows the accumulation of liquids in the intercellular spaces.
In massage therapy, friction and compression maneuvers are of fundamental importance as they help to increase the circulatory system and drain the lymphatic system.
Phytotherapy can also be used.
Phytotherapy is based on the principle that the active ingredients of some plants reactivate the circulation, promote diuresis, facilitate the catabolism of fats and stimulate the liver and kidneys, vital organs for the elimination of toxins.
Seeds, roots, leaves and buds are extracted from the plant and are available in herbal medicine in the form of dry extracts and mother tinctures: this treatment is more suitable for newly developed cellulite. Dandelion, barberry, burdock, dog rose, meadowsweet and birch have diuretic properties.
Instead, butcher’s broom, horse chestnut, hawthorn, witch hazel and blueberry are recommended to stimulate microcirculation.
Finally, sea oak, centella and ginkgo biloba stimulate metabolic processes and increase the resistance of the connective tissue that makes up the walls of the vessels.
